BMW 3 Series

Cross-shopping on whatcar.com

More than a fifth of potential BMW 3 Series buyers are also considering its Audi A4 rival during the research phase, while the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the traditional next logical rival to the BMW and Audi, garners 10% of interest. When it comes to discounts, Target Price savings on the 3 Series are generous, with buyers able to haggle up to £2324 from the car’s list price. However, both the A4 and C-Class are available with larger discounts of up to £2841 and £4167 respectively.

It’s especially interesting to note that value clearly plays heavily on the minds of potential buyers, with the Skoda Superb out-ranking both the C-Class and many other more expensive options to become the second most popular rival choice.

It’s also interesting to note that while 9% of 3 Series buyers are tempted to look toward the larger 5 Series luxury saloon, just 5% also look down the range, to the smaller and cheaper 1 Series. Indeed, both the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf garner more interest than BMW’s own family hatchback here. Outlying competition, meanwhile, comes from our reigning Hybrid Car of the Year, the Toyota Corolla, as well as the Volvo S60.
