Buyers’ priorities – March 2020

Buyers’ priorities: What are buyers looking for?

A wide variety of things are important to car buyers. Performance is a priority for some, while reliability or low running costs are crucial for others. And What Car? research has revealed that these priorities differ depending on the type of car being bought.

Family SUV buyers value reliability more than anything else; 42% said it was their main priority. The other two most important aspects they considered when buying their current car were a good driving position (36%) and equipment (32%).

In contrast, buyers of electric vehicles (EVs) value running costs above everything else; 65% said it was their biggest concern.

Refinement was regarded as the next most important factor in choosing an EV (58% cited this), while 52% of buyers said performance was in their top three priorities.
