What Car?’s power to inform – November 2018
Subscribing to a car
The idea of paying a single monthly figure for the use of a car, plus insurance, road tax and maintenance, is gradually gaining momentum. Clearly, paying a single, low-hassle monthly sum is appealing for younger consumers who don’t feel the urge to actually own a car and want to minimise the effort required to use one.
What Car?’s 29 November article explained how such schemes work and their advantages, which often include the flexibility to subscribe for as long or as short a period as you like, and their disadvantage: relatively high prices.
The story attracted interest over a five-day period, but not as much as many stories of this kind do, possibly because many are yet to come across these schemes.
