Ford Puma Competitor Insight

Cross-shopping on whatcar.com

Ford’s small SUV is a former What Car? Car of the Year and remains our favourite car in its class, so even its biggest challenger – the similarly five-star Volkswagen T-Roc – can’t attract more than 5.6% of potential buyers. That’s despite the T-Roc being available with more than double the discount of the Puma, with savings of up to £3841 and £1822 respectively.

It’s always interesting to see buyers shopping up a manufacturer’s range, with the Ford Kuga large SUV in 10th place, but also the five-star Skoda Karoq above it from the family SUV class. Notable by its absence, however, is the Ford EcoSport, Ford’s other small SUV, itself available with discounts of up to £1571 at the time of writing.

Instead, there are a host of other small SUV rivals populating our top 10, with the Peugeot 2008 and Skoda Kamiq joining the T-Roc in being able to sway more than 3% of potential Puma buyers.

This top 10 shows how devoted buyers can be to a car class, especially one as popular as SUVs, since no car here falls outside of that category. Clearly, potential buyers want the high-set driving position and family friendly practicality that this class offers.

1. Volkswagen T-Roc – 5.6%
2. Skoda Kamiq – 4.9%
3. Peugeot 2008 – 3.7%
4. Volkswagen T-Cross – 2.5%
5. Seat Arona – 2.4%
6. Audi Q2 – 2.3%
7. Nissan Juke – 2.1%
8. Vauxhall Mokka – 2.0%
9. Skoda Karoq – 1.9%
10. Ford Kuga – 1.8%
