Land Rover Discovery Sport Competitor Insight

Cross-shopping on whatcar.com

While the biggest overall challenge to the Discovery Sport large SUV comes from the Audi Q5, it’s interesting to see the larger Discovery feature so highly on our list of rivals – that model is more than £20,000 more expensive than the Discovery Sport, and yet it seems that potential buyers can be lured more successfully by it than by a lot of cheaper models.

Likewise, though, the XC40 also features here from the class below, and shows that SUV buyers can be tempted into smaller models as well as larger ones – especially when those models are available with substantial discounts and also carry a What Car? Award. For example, buyers can currently save up to £4069 off the five-star XC40, compared with up to £3278 off the Discovery Sport and up to £4797 off the Audi Q5.

It’s also interesting to note that a number of models which buyers might consider to be less premium than the Discovery Sport, such as the Mazda CX-5, Peugeot 5008 and Skoda Kodiaq also feature among our top 10. Those cars are also available with substantial discounts, but also cost less than the Land Rover to begin with. This shows that when buying a premium model, potential buyers will still look to see if they can get better value for money by opting for a cheaper car.
