New Car Buying: cars generating the most leads from buyers at whatcar.com

Target Price savings of almost £4000 contributed to the Seat Ateca marching seven places up the list this month, from 14th in December. It’s testament to the enduring appeal of the Volvo XC40 that despite having fewer discounts than many of the cars on this month’s list, this family SUV still provided 65% more leads to approved What Car? dealers than the second-placed car, Volkswagen’s Polo.

Elsewhere, while the Nissan Qashqai managed to cling on in 15th position following a fall last month, the Kia Picanto dropped off the list entirely, having declined to 10th place in December. That’s most likely down to larger Target Price discounts being available on rivals. Other models to disappear from this month’s list include the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Ford Fiesta.

New Car Buying: brands generating the most leads from buyers at whatcar.com

Volkswagen Group brands generally perform well in this list, but January was the first time that they locked out four of the top five places. Elsewhere, an increase in Renault discounts – including up to £2448 on the Zoe electric hatchback and £3974 on the Kadjar large SUV – gave the French brand a five-place boost compared with the previous month, while Citroën fell from 15th to 19th, just above new entry Tesla, which is being buoyed by continued interest in the Model 3 executive car.
