It’s a rare moment when the Volvo XC40 family SUV is dethroned as the most popular new car review on whatcar.com, but last month both the Tesla Model 3 and Volkswagen ID.3 managed just that, with the latter becoming our most-read review the slimmest of margins. Part of that popularity was likely down to slightly improved Target Price discounts, although at the time of writing these are only up to a modest £953, but also due to being mentioned alongside other new Volkswagen Group electric cars including the Cupra Born and upcoming Volkswagen ID.5.

Elsewhere, the Toyota Yaris Cross was one of the month’s biggest fallers, moving from 11th to 19th position. That’s not helped by slim discounts – up to £10 at the time of writing – but also shows how quickly a new model may lose favour with readers, despite the Yaris Cross receiving a four-star rating on our road test.

At the other end of the scale, the Audi Q4 e-tron rose dramatically from 17th to 10th place, helped by both a review update for the cheapest ‘40’ model, and being featured as part of our ‘How to spec’ series.
