What Car?’s New Car Buying service, which links its in-market audience to retailers, has been awarded the prestigious Car Dealer Power Extra Mile Award for supporting the industry with free leads for six months when the Covid-19 pandemic struck in March.
As soon as lockdown was announced, What Car?’s New Car Buying service was opened up for free to all retailers and OEMs, with more than 1000 signing up to receive free leads from the average 100,000 daily users who visit the leading car-buying and consumer champion website.
Retailers voted for the awards anonymously, with one judge who nominated What Car? New Car Buying to win declaring: “The fact What Car? supported the industry when it needed it most will not be forgotten. We certainly appreciated it and I know many other dealers did too. It helped that it’s a great solution that works too.”
Car Dealer Power Award head judge James Baggott hailed the win, adding: “2020 will go down as a year of the motor trade wants to forget – but when we do look back it will hopefully be the stories of how the trade clubbed together that will be remembered.”
“When chaos descended on the industry, there were a number of firms that decided that right then profits weren’t important but helping each other out was. What Car?’s response was brilliant: it opened up its platform to dealers across the country completely free of charge from April to the end of September and did all it could to help the industry out of the Covid-19 crisis.”
Talking about the victory, Kate Hannam, Director of Sales and Commercial Partnerships for What Car?, said: “From the moment lockdown began we understood that our business could not thrive if our customers’ businesses weren’t, and we took the decision to do everything we could to support them, providing more than 100,000 free sales enquiries without any charge for a period of six-months.
“We can see the sales generated from that, and I hope and believe we have contributed to the incredible figures posted in recent months.”
Retailers including Ford Retail, JCT 600, Marshall Motor Group, Pendragon, Robins & Day, Snows, Vertu Motors, Vindis and Waylands Automotive are currently using What Car?’s New Car Buying lead generation service.
