Car of the Year Awards 2020

The annual What Car? Car of the Year Awards are often referred to as the motoring Oscars, and this graph makes it easy to see why. The hashtag #WhatCarAwards reached more than 3.5 million people on social media, generating more than 25 million impressions and trending above the premiere of Love Island which took place on the same night.

As you might imagine with a seasonal event, the hashtag received most attention on the night itself, but it also sustained interest in the days that followed.

Deals are at the heart of What Car?, whether it be through our own New Car Buying platform, through What Car? Leasing or through content driven by our Target Price savings.

Despite being a traditionally slow time for sales, savvy buyers were still on the hunt for new car deals over Christmas, and especially running into January. Traffic to our deals content peaked on Wednesday 8 January – two days after most people had returned to work – but there was an elevated level of interest building up to that date.
